Donna Price lived the first 50+ years of her life in fear and closeted. Having grown up in poverty for several years, when her father lost his job when his employer went bankrupt, and being an active duty Navy officer, she feared the consequences of anyone learning her secret as she would have been involuntarily separated and the basis for discharge would have been “Sexual Perversion” - simply for identifying as a gender different from her sex assigned at birth. After fighting against her authentic self and identity for decades, and attempting suicide in 2001, she realized that she had to begin the process that would eventually, at age 60, result in her transitioning from David to Donna, losing her wife along the way, but gaining her true identity. A retired Captain, Judge Advocate General’s Corps, U.S. Navy; Commanding Officer of the largest legal office in the Department of the Navy, Criminal Trial Judge, Senior Vice President - Privacy and Compliance/Chief Compliance Officer for a healthcare provider, and - for the past 15 years in private practice - as an attorney, helping people keep their jobs, Donna now has the ability to live “open and notoriously as a proud transgender woman.” She does so and lives this way for all of her transgender sisters, brothers, and non-binary transgender individuals, who are not yet able to do so…
